When we often think about inflammation, we think about swelling after bumping our heads, or redness after getting a scrape. While this is absolutely inflammation, there’s a bit more to it.
Inflammation is defined as a biological response of the body tissues as they react to outside stimuli. So, is this a good or a bad thing? The short answer—both!

Facts About Inflammation in Your Body
1. Inflammation is a natural response that happens in your body, and it’s necessary for proper healing to take place.
2. There are two types of inflammation–acute inflammation is what we experience when we see redness around a cut, or a bruise on our body after bumping into something. Chronic inflammation occurs when we have a problem that isn’t being addressed, and our body is constantly trying to figure out how to address it by trying to regenerate, then breaking down. This cycle happens constantly until a change is made.
3. Chronic inflammation can have a negative effect on your immune system. Some severe problems related to inflammation can include GI problems, blood sugar imbalances, autoimmune problems, cardiovascular issues and more.
4. Chronic inflammation can limit us from experiencing our lives the way we want them. It can be difficult to walk, run, play with grandchildren or children, eat and sleep.
